BACKGROUND

West Cliff installed the PED System after it was identified by mine management, form experience with PED at other mines, that it could offer distinct advantages to mine’s emergency and general communication systems.

COMPOSITION

Transmission System with 9km surface antenna powered by a transmitter located near the upcast shaft. 200 BeltPED Personal Receivers

DESCRIPTION

A surface antenna of 9km (30,000 ft) provides coverage to the whole underground mine area, including the longwall face.

JUSTIFICATION

West Cliff justified the system by the productivity and safety advantages offered by PED’s mine wide signal coverage. Justification was simplified by some of the mine management working with PED at previous mines, where it proved beneficial.
